Composed entirely from photographs sourced on Facebook, 97 Empleadas Domésticas is an exploration of the societal and labour discrimination that inform and shape the landscape of Peruvian life. Through a thoughtful curation of images capturing everyday scenarios and familial celebrations, Daniela Ortiz subtly unveils the manner in which domestic workers, a significant facet of Peruvian life, remain obscured within the seemingly innocuous photographic narratives of the affluent middle class. Often relegated to the backdrop, if not entirely hidden in shadows, these workers are rendered invisible. The cogency of this artwork is its apparent absence, omission, and invisibility, exposing the latent dynamics and mechanisms of class and social hierarchies in contemporary Lima society.
